This year's presidential campaign fundraising surpassed that staggering sum Thursday, in the final sprint to Election Day on Nov. 6. And anyone in one of the handful of states expected to determine the outcome is sure to see first hand how that money will be put to use. Endless TV ads. Direct mail pitches calibrated to the neighborhood and even block level. And get-out-the-vote efforts that aim to leave no door unknocked. At $2 billion, according to accounting statements submitted to the government, this election is on track to be the costliest in history, fueled by a campaign finance system vastly altered by the proliferation of "super" political committees that are bankrolling a barrage of TV ads in battleground states. President Obama and Mitt Romney had brought in about $1. 7 billion so far this election, according to fundraising reports submitted Thursday night.

Key:

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
